Minoan palate of Knossos
Its existence remained an assumption based on the Homeric stories, until its discovery in the XIXth century.
At the opposed to what is claim by many tourist guides, it is not a site impossible to circumvent.
The greatest part of the site was refitted by Arthur Evans (1841-1951), English archaeologist, to build on the ruins of origins false ruins mixing stones and concrete according to architecture supposed to the temple of origin.
It is a pity that the work was not completed in order to rebuild the palate entirety. Instead of that, columns of concretes artificially crossed, walls and stages with half-built in order to give the impression of true ruins...
