Cities of Crete : Héraklion

Arabs built the port of Kandak in the IXth century.
From the XIIIth to the XVIIth, the city called Candia remained under Venetian domination. From this time remains the walls of the XVIth and the fortress.

The city itself is alive and pleasant, its very interesting archaeological museum exposes the objects of Minoan civilization which were found on archaeological sites such as Knossos, Phaistos...
