Nafplion is a pleasant little coastal town. Its old center is charming, dominated by the Acronafplion citadel and by an imposing Venetian castle, a strengthened small island bathes opposite its seaside.
It is also a practical place to visit the region.
It was a Byzantine possession, then Franck in the XIIIth and XIVth, Venetian from the XIVth to the XVIth centuries, then Turkish.
In 1866, the city was taken again by the Venetian ones who strongly embellished it before the Turkish took it again in 1715 with an army of about 100.000 men.
