Epidaurus is famous thanks to its theater of the 4th BC, exceptionally well conserved, probably the most beautiful of the ancient Greek world.
In the origins, this place in the middle of the Argolis'hills was the sanctuary of Aesculapius, divinity of Medicine.
The patients came there to be cured by Aesculapius who could either cure during the sleep, or appear in dreams the priests translated into treatment then.
These treatments could be accompanied with entertainments, baths, and physical exercises. Every four years, was held in Epidaurus music and poetry contests.
The theater itself includes 55 rows, could receive about 14.000 spectators. On the site one can also discover the sanctuary of Aesculapius where the patients went and the vestiges of the stadium.
The museum gathers some object, sculptures and pediments among its ex-votos dedicated to Aesculapius.
