The temple of Apollo Epicurius of Bassae is located on a mount at more than 1000m altitude in a very beautiful site, austere and windy.
Dedicated to Apollo, it was built in the Vth century by the inhabitants of Figàla.
This Doric temple has several unusual characteristics as a north-south axis (instead east-west) and an important length compared to the width (15 columns for 6). It mixes the three traditional orders: Ionic, Doric and Corinthian.
The external colonnade is Doric whereas the Naos consists in two lines of five ionic columns and a Corinthian column at the bottom of the cell.
