Patras is the capital of the Peloponnese and the third Greek city with about 150.000 inhabitants (2006).
A bridge was recently built, connecting it to central Greece.
There are frequent sea links with Ionian islands and Italy.
It is in Patras where Saint-Andrew knew the martyr, he evangelized the city during the Roman empire ruled by Neron.
The city had an important religious influence during history. It was burnt in 1821 by Turkish in reprisals to local rising.
