From Athens, the road of Apollo follows the coast along the gulf of Saronic and leads to the Sounion Cap : the "Holy headland" of Homere, ancient sanctuary dominated by the temple of Poseidon.
The acropolis is surrounded by walls. In the center, the Doric temple of Poseidon was built in marble in the IVth BC under Pericles. There existed before another temple which was destroyed during the second medic war against Persians.
